Find Your Place In The Spirit Of God

Posted by Rev. Mark Slay

In I Corinthians the 14th chapter, Paul begins to talk about moving in the things of the Spirit, meaning the gifts of the Spirit and the manifestations of the Spirit. He says, "Pursue love, yet desire earnestly spiritual gifts." We have to go back to the 12th chapter to find out a little more about what these gifts are for. Let's look.

4 Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit. 5 And there are varieties of ministries, and the same Lord. 6 There are varieties of effects, but the same God who works all things in all persons. 7 But to each one is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.

Notice he says in verse 7 "to each one"; to each one of us is given a gift so that He can use us for His good. If you love Jesus or you maybe you don't yet but you want to love Jesus, He's already picked or slotted a place out for you and you are the only shape that will fill that slot; to get you to that slot is not always an easy task because it requires willingness on our part. If you find where you have been slotted and fulfill that place, there is a reward for you and here's the flipside, if you don't, you'll be lost. And you are the only one that can make that choice. The greatest enemy you will ever have is your own will.

And whatever it is that He has graced you with you have to be careful that the devil doesn't use it to destroy you. For example, how many singers started out singing in church using their gift for God and then ended up using that gift outside the church in the world and end up dying from a drug overdose or so bound that they can't even function in the world?

You may have ideas of what you want to do but ultimately what God wants you to do has to be most important and if it is, you'll prove it. Take the gifts that He has planned out for you and function in that place, whatever it may be.
