Light Of The World

“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden; 15 nor does anyone light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. 16 Let your light shine before men in such a way that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven.”     - Matthew 5:14-16

Did you know you are the light of the world? Jesus said that. I think many Christians believe Jesus is the light of the world, and their only job in life is to make it through the Pearly Gates one day. But Jesus gave us a job to do here on the earth. He clearly stated in these verses that believers are to be lights shining brightly for Him in a dark world. The world is lost. They are darkened by the enemy, and it is our duty to live in such a way that they might see the light of Christ in us.

The way you let those around you see your light, the way you let your light shine before men, is by living for Jesus. Christians should not be hiding their light. Doing such would be comparable to somebody lighting a lamp and then putting it under a basket as verse 15 says. Your light should be shining so brightly the world around you sees Jesus in you. In other words, everything you and I do needs to reflect how our Father God is.

It is imperative for us as Christians to make sure that we are thinking like God thinks and acting how Jesus would act. How else will a world trapped in sin come to know Him? They won’t if we fail to do our part. Romans 12:2 tells us not to be conformed to the world, but instead to be transformed by the renewing of our minds. The best way to help make sure that you are living for God and letting your light shine is by staying grounded in His Word. Keep it first and foremost in your life and let it change you from the inside out.

Instead of hiding the light you have within, let it constantly be glowing for Him by obeying and acting on the Word. Refuse to keep your lamp under a basket and determine to live every day for God. When you do what the Bible says, your light will shine so bright for Jesus that no devil in hell will be able to put it out!
