Meditate On The Word

"Only be strong and very courageous; be careful to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right or to the left, so that you may have success wherever you go. This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success."     -Joshua 1:7-8 NASB

When God spoke to Joshua before the children of Israel entered the land of Canaan, one of the things He commanded the people was that in order to experience success in their lives they should be very careful to do all things according to the law which He has given to Moses. If they wanted to prosper, if they wanted to succeed, if they wanted to experience the blessing, then the first thing they needed to do was fully obey the commandments of the Lord. Obedience always results in blessing. Every time. Disobedience only brings about the curse. He went on to say in verse 8 that they should keep the Word of God constantly before them and meditate on it day and night.

Just like the children of Israel, God’s Word should be our focus at all times. You might be thinking, "Well I can’t spend all day dwelling on the Bible. That’s not possible." But the truth is, we spend our time thinking about our families, our jobs, our bills...and many times we do more than just think, we worry and fret about it all throughout the day and even into the night. Instead, the Word instructs us to focus or meditate on what God has said because His Word is truth and it is the truth of His Word will cause you to be prosperous in all of your ways.

In this new year determine to make God's Word a priority in your life. Set aside time each day to read the Bible and meditate on it as you go about your day. If you purpose to do that and obey what the Word says, the Lord will do for you exactly what He promised to do for Joshua and the Israelites. He will prosper all of your ways and cause you to have success in all you do this year and every year to come!
