Firm Foundation

"Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine and acts on them, may be compared to a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded on the rock. Everyone who hears these words of Mine and does not act on them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and slammed against that house; and it fell-and great was its fall."    - Matthew 7:24-27 NASB

Have you ever built a sandcastle? They are not known to be structurally sound. In fact, at the onslaught of even the slightest bit of wind, rain, or waves the structure begins to erode and over time is completely destroyed. In the natural, we would never decide to build our house on a foundation made of sand. Why? Because it would be an unstable foundation. Sand will not last or withstand the forces of nature that come against it. Our home and everything in it would eventually be ruined due to the process of erosion. It is vitally important that we build upon a strong foundation in the natural, and spiritually it works the same way.

In our lives, we cannot build a foundation on anything other than Christ. He is the only solid ground. In a world full of uncertainties, Christ is a constant. He never changes. The Bible says in Hebrews 13:8, "Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever." Nothing about His nature or love changes. He was the same from the beginning of time and will be the same for all of eternity. We can trust Him. He is the only source of stability in a shifting world. He is the unmovable Rock, and the person who bases their life upon Him won't be moved either! The wind and rain of life can come. The devil can throw everything, including the kitchen sink at you, but nothing will be able to shake you because you are grounded in the Almighty One.

Christ is our firm foundation. Building upon temporal or worldly things may seem successful for a time, but it will ultimately end in destruction just as Jesus said. If we want to stand in these last days, we must continue to hear and act upon the Word of the Lord. That is what will keep you from being shaken or falling apart. When you do the Word, nothing will be able to move you off of the firm foundation of God!

Love,
